Thanks to the Pennywise for posting about the Spring Walk at Lakeside Labyrinth in their most recent edition. You can read it online here.

We are thrilled to announce that Lakeside Labyrinth will be featured in the upcoming Spring and Summer issue of West Kootenay Go & Do. You can get a sneak peak at the article below.

What is a Labyrinth?

Often referred to as walking meditation, a labyrinth is a circular pathway, weaving towards the middle, then out again, eventually reaching the centre. Walking a labyrinth calms the nervous system and promotes a sense of well being. Studies have shown that the curving pathway emulates the spirals of the right and left brain hemispheres and brings them into coherence and balance.

A labyrinth is different than a maze, which has dead ends that disorient and confuse the walker. In ancient times when labyrinths were often built of rock or berm walls, it is thought that with disrepair, the walls fell down and created the dead ends that became the maze.

There are several walking labyrinths in the West Kootenay area including Nelson, Kaslo, Castlegar, and New Denver. The Nelson Community Labyrinth Group hosts free public walks at the Lakeside Labyrinth to mark the seasonal changes: Spring and Autumn Equinoxes and Winter and Summer Solstices, as well as on World Labyrinth Day, the first Saturday in May, when thousands of people around the world 'Walk as One at 1:00' for world peace. Wherever people are, in whatever time zone, walking at 1:00 pm your local time, will create a twenty‐four hour 'walking meditation' around the globe with a focused intention to generate peace, however that might look to you.

The Lakeside Labyrinth celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and the group in Nelson will host a 20th Anniversary Celebration Walk alongside the Summer Solstice Walk on Thursday, June 20th. The 20th on the 20th. Check out their website for walk details, Lakeside Labyrinth, or their Facebook page, Lakeside Labyrinth, or email: info@nelsonlabyrinth.com. The Lakeside Labyrinth in Nelson is located in Lakeside Rotary Park near BOB (Big Orange Bridge). It is wheelchair accessible, washrooms are close by and it is always free to walk.
